Personalized Root Canal Care
Protect Your Smile
Persistent tooth pain can make eating, sleeping, and getting through the day difficult. If a tooth is inflamed or infected inside, root canal treatment may help address the problem and preserve your natural tooth. At Skinner Dental, we provide thoughtful root canal care in Murray, Utah, with clear explanations and attention to your comfort.
Inside each tooth is soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. Deep decay, cracks, or an injury can damage this tissue. Root canal treatment removes the affected pulp, cleans the space inside the tooth, and seals it to help prevent further infection.
Our team will examine your tooth, discuss your symptoms, and explain whether root canal treatment is appropriate. We’ll help you understand your options and what to expect before treatment begins.
Schedule an evaluation if you’re noticing:
A toothache that persists or keeps returning
Lingering sensitivity after hot or cold foods and drinks
Pain when biting or chewing
Swollen or tender gums near a tooth
A recurring bump on the gums
A tooth that has become noticeably darker
These symptoms can have several causes, and some teeth that need root canal treatment have little or no pain. A dental examination helps us determine what’s happening and recommend the right next step.
You don’t have to figure it out on your own. Let our caring team help you find answers and get the treatment you need.

My daughter started going here, and I soon transferred over as well. I was impressed with the up to date equipment, and they can basically do everything in the office without sending you elsewhere. Both of the Dr. Skinner’s and JJ have always been very informational with every visit. I would recommend them to anyone.

Root Canal Questions?
We Have Answers
Why would I need a root canal?
Root canal treatment may be recommended when the pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed and cannot recover. Treating the inside of the tooth can help preserve it and address the source of the problem. We’ll explain the findings from your examination and any recommended imaging.
Is root canal treatment painful?
Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. Many patients find the procedure more comfortable than they expected, especially when they’ve been dealing with tooth pain. Tell us about any concerns or discomfort so we can respond to your needs throughout your visit.
What happens during a root canal?
The dentist creates an opening in the tooth, removes the affected pulp, and cleans and shapes the root canals. The canals are then filled and sealed. Your tooth will also need a restoration to close the opening and help protect it.
Will I need a crown afterward?
Many teeth need a crown after root canal treatment, particularly back teeth that handle substantial chewing pressure. Other teeth may be restored differently depending on their condition and remaining tooth structure. We’ll explain the recommended restoration for your tooth.
What should I expect after treatment?
The tooth and surrounding area may feel tender for a short time. Follow your aftercare instructions and avoid chewing on the treated tooth until your dentist says it is ready. Contact our team if you develop worsening pain, visible swelling, or a bite that feels uneven.
Is removing the tooth an alternative?
Extraction may be an option when a tooth cannot be predictably restored or when you choose not to proceed with root canal treatment. Removing a tooth also raises questions about replacing it and maintaining your bite. We’ll discuss the benefits and considerations of each suitable option.
Clear Answers. Compassionate Care
What to Expect at Your Root Canal Visit
Your Comfort Matters
Your visit begins with a review of your symptoms and an examination of the affected tooth. We’ll listen to your concerns and help you understand the process. We may take dental X-rays and perform additional tests to evaluate the pulp and surrounding tissues. From there, we’ll explain our findings, discuss suitable treatment options, and review estimated costs.
If root canal treatment is recommended, we’ll explain the procedure, how we’ll keep the area numb, and the restoration your tooth may need afterward. Some cases may require care from an endodontist, a dentist who specializes in treating the inside of teeth.
Before you leave, you’ll receive guidance on caring for your tooth and arranging any follow-up treatment. Our goal is to help you feel informed, supported, and comfortable with your care.
